Steve understands how I learn and finds ways to get a point across when I am having trouble figuring out how to play a piece, write out a composition I'm working on, or learning theory --- all done in a fun and relaxing atmosphere. Included in this atmosphere of learning are improv sessions, when I can set aside the written music and just jam with Steve. It's not only fun, but an incredible confidence builder and a means to get comfortable with specific keys, learn various rhythms, and suss out a melody or bass line, while using some nifty keyboard sounds!

I often say that Steve "oozes" music. If you hear him play, you will know what I mean. His enthusiasm and love of music is obvious and contagious. His patience and humor are a gift. He is a special kind of teacher, a wonderful, caring person, and an incredibly talented, multi-instrument-playing musician.

Steve is a wonderful teacher who is dedicated and has a very high level of competence on the piano. He uses a variety of methods for teaching, depending on the kind of music and the student ... He is a highly versatile musician with excellent skills on the drums, the guitar, and other instruments, and teaches these as well as the piano.  Steve is very patient. He is a kind and enthusiastic person, with a great sense of humor, and is very happy to accommodate the learning needs of his students. I highly recommend him as a keyboard teacher!

I can't express how much I have come to love playing music. Practice has become a passion instead of a chore. With Steve as a role model and mentor, as well as a caring and talented teacher, I've started to think of myself as a musician, and to really believe it.

I leave every lesson energized and enthusiastic about the lesson,

what I've learned and what I'm going to work at in the coming week.

I have taken piano lessons on and off for over 25 years from 10 different teachers. Until meeting Steve, I could not play a thing from memory, but could read music reasonably well. Having finished only my second year of lessons with Steve, I can now play over 15 different, very difficult jazz, pop, and improvisational songs from memory alone, and have recorded them on a CD. I know from experience that the difference is Steve. Steve is a master in his field; you would be hard pressed to find anyone else even close to his caliber.
